Reformation Research Group (RefoRG) Launched in Montreal
19-10-2010
On October 15th, during the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference in Montreal, it was announced that the Refo500 academic partners are closer to organizing through the Reformation Research Group (RefoRG). In this way, research institutions within Refo500 can more effectively cooperate and still make use of cooperation with partners outside of Refo500, which was a problem for some academic partners until recently.
One of the activities of RefoRG is the annual conference which will always be held in a different European city. This conference offers researchers a platform to present their research and to strengthen interdisciplinary contact. The first conference is planned for 8-10 June 2011 and will be held by Refo500 partner, The Institute for Swiss Reformation History (Institut für Schweizerische Reformationsgeschichte) of the University of Zürich. The themes of this conference will be: “The Myth of the Reformation.” Speakers will include Emidio Campi, Bridget Heal, Barbara Mahlmann, and Thomas Kaufmann. In 2012 the conference will be held in Oslo, Norway, and in 2013 Berlin, Germany.
Furthermore, new, international research projects are being set up and a new book series is starting, which will appear with Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. An example of one such project is the research project “450 years of the Council of Trent,” which has been prepared by the Univerity of Leuven. The theme of RefoRG is that significant developments of the reformations in the sixteenth century have taken place in the cultural, legal, scientific, ecclesiastical, social, theological, and philosophical fields and have direct effects upon the following centuries. The board of RefoRG consists of:
Anne Eusterschulte (Freie Universität Berlin)
Peter Opitz (Universität Zürich)
Tarald Rasmussen (University of Oslo)
Herman Selderhuis (Johannes a Lasco Bibliothek Emden)
Violet Soen (Catholic University Leuven)
Piotr Wilczek (University of Warsaw)
