Reformation Cities Conference in Eisleben May 18-19, 2011

The city of Eisleben, Martin Luther’s birthplace, has invited Reformation cities in German speaking countries to a conference on May 18-19, 2011 in Eisleben.
Originally, the conference was scheduled for April 12-13 of this year, but because of a number of other important activities happening in Germany, it was decided to shift the dates of the conference.
The city of Eisleben, where there are many places and buildings significant in the life of the reformer Martin Luther, is using the preparations for the jubilee year of the reformation in 2017 to bring to life all the facets of the Reformation and to emphasize their significance. In order to find multiple partners, this city contacted the Refo500 Foundation (Stichting Refo500). During a consultation of Refo500 regarding the reformation cities in Bretten in October 2010 it was revealed that both Eisleben and Refo500 consider the history of the reformation not only a unique historical theme of Germany but also as something that still has an influence upon world history and still has many effects today.
During the consultation of October 2010, the city of Eisleben expressed its intention in the coming year of 2011 to organize a conference in the city where Martin Luther was born and died. The conference would be about the benefits of Refo500 and the opportunities which such a partnership provides in the area of tourism and culture. Meanwhile, the city of Eisleben has invited a great number of cities to this conference, which originally was planned for April 12-13. Because it now appears that on those dates a number of other important activities are occurring in Germany, it has been decided to shift the conference to May 18-19, 2011. The invited cities have received written notice of the change in the dates of the conference.
