Exhibition Luther in an artist’s book
21-03-2011
From 21st March to 21st April 2011, the University Library of Erfurt shows an exhibition on the 'Erfurt Almanac on Luther 1511-2011'. The Almanac was commissioned by the City of Erfurt to commemorate Luther’s move from Erfurt to Wittenberg in 1511 and designed as an artist’s book with essays and illustrations by the Erfurt graphic artist Uta Huenniger.
The original edition is 200 copies which are all hand-coloured and thus unique versions. The nine essays in the Almanac are contributions by professors at the University of Erfurt as well as two invited authors and are focussed on five selected writings by Luther from the early years of the Reformation. The illustrations present artistic impressions of Erfurt as the city, its citizens, its university and its monasteries can be imagined with a view towards the times of Luther.
The exhibition is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission free. Location: University Library, Nordhäuser Straße 63, Erfurt. For further information about the Almanac see the website of the artist.
