University of Warsaw as Refo500 coordinator for Central and Eastern Europe
16-12-2011
In an official meeting visited by some 50 professors and other scholars, the partnership agreement between the University of Warsaw and Refo500 was signed by Włodzimierz Lengauer, Vice Rector of the University, Jerzy Axer, founder and Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary studies "Artes Liberales" and Piotr Wilczek of this Institute.
Prof. Lengauer: "Since 2006 we signed all kinds of bilateral agreements and we regard the cooperation with the Refo500 network as one of the more promising ones and as the beginning of a new period with good prospects on collaboration." During the meeting Herman Selderhuis presented Refo500 and its academic department RefoRC briefly and mentioned some projects that could be of interest for the University of Warsaw, e.g. publications in the Refo500 Academic Studies published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, and the Latin summer school in Bologna, as well as some interdisciplinary and international research projects. At the end of the meeting a new book on Petrus Wachenius (a Polish Calvinist author of the 17th century) edited by Mariusz Pawelec and Dariusz Rott, published in a book series edited by Piotr Wilczek, was presented.
Piotr Wilczek, professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies "Artes Liberales" is board member of RefoRC and will act as contact person. He will represent Refo500 in Central and Eastern Europe and will investigate possibilities to come to a program (both academic and non academic) and to make Refo500 known to a broader audience. During the meeting, he already started with this by promoting the platform Refo500 to visitors from e.g. Ukraine and Russia. In other meetings later that day with Herman Selderhuis and Karla Apperloo of Refo500, further ideas for activities in Central and Eastern Europe concerning topics of the 16th century reformations were discussed, such as conferences, a PhD program, an exhibition and ideas for travel partners to visit Warsaw.
